Dryx smiled and flicked her mossy mane sardonically, knowing that she had gotten a rise out of this "would-be" Alphess. As alluring as this regal wolf was, she was well-aware of those with this self-absorbsion. In the past, she recalled packs rising and falling with the the hollow words "none shall be harmed." In fact, many would say these words just to amass a following before revealing subterfuge. All things considered, Dryx felt that her caution warranted a vigilant need to press against assumed authority to test its genuine qualities.
"You speak words and hurl many insults, yet aside from yoweling in mid-afternoon, you've hardly demonstrated leadership. I've heard many spout these words without little backing, m'lady," she responded with a sarcastic sting.
Dryx shifted her stance and stared at the swaying forest around them. She was well aware of her usefullness and knew that this wolf would eventually see it. Periodically, she'd glance at the troubled wolf. His fear and uncertainty about his own abilities served as a reminder of her own past. Her maw shifted into a warm smile, hoping to assure him that she bore no ill-intent. In a way, Dryx found herself wanting to be in these wolves' presence despite the current situation. Perhaps the uniqueness of these individuals proved more intriguing than she anticipated. Quickly, she turned her gaze back toward the regal one, with diplomacy in her eyes and expression.
"Neutrality sometimes is the wisest course if you're wanting to protect a pack," Dryx smiled and made herself slightly smaller than before, hoping it may serve as an olive branch, "as a courier, you quickly learn to question intent. I already have revealed more of myself to you than I have to those in my past, consider that a gesture of belief in of itself. Just in case you've never been anything less than an Alphess before, your subordinates assess trustworthiness the same way you do."
Dryx again found herself admiring this regal wolf's passion. While she has heard these words in the past, she never recalled seeing this determination. Perhaps, this time it would be different.
"My services would no doubt prove valuable. Considering how vacant these lands are, there's strength in numbers and in capability."
